3 Cute Pumpkin Patches & Farm Stops to Visit Around Rochester, NY This Fall π
Fall in Rochester might be our favorite season. The leaves turn beautiful colors, the air gets crisp, and suddenly a weekend isn’t complete without pumpkins, cider, and a drive through the Finger Lakes.
And while there are plenty of big fall attractions around Western New York and the Rochester region, sometimes the best autumn outing is a little simpler: visit a small local farm, find the perfect color of mums for your front step, and enjoy the scenery.
If you’re looking for somewhere to go this October, here are three local farm stops to add to your fall list.
Blue Barn Acres — Victor
Victor and the surrounding countryside make a great destination for an October drive, and Blue Barn Acres is one local stop to put on your radar this fall.
This cute local farm offers pumpkins - including a pick-your-own patch - and produce. A charming touch is that the produce is artfully displayed on antique servingware! They also offer a FREE corn maze - donations gladly accepted via Venmo. They also offer a play area for kids and a variety of well-priced pumpkins.
One of the things we love about smaller local farms is that the experience can feel a little more relaxed. You don't necessarily need an entire day or a packed itinerary. This is perfect for a quick stop with the kids or a romantic stroll through the maze for an hour or two.
Victor, NY
Why visit: A convenient fall stop for anyone in the Pittsford/Victor/Canandaigua area or looking to make a day out of exploring Victor and the region. You can also stop just down the street at Great Brook Farm for cider.
Sunscape Farms — Penfield
Sunscape Farms is a particularly easy fall stop for Rochester-area families because its original farm market is right in Penfield at 1416 Creek Street.
The farm grows a wide variety of its own seasonal produce, and fall brings plenty of color to the market. During September and October, you'll find a great mix of pumpkins, gourds, mums, vegetables, specialty honey, and other seasonal produce and plants. Decorative cabbage makes a great touch in your fall landscape. Plus, you can always find fresh cut bouquets there!
Sunscape is owned and operated by Nathan and Courtney Savage, and the farm has grown from Nate's childhood interest in gardening into a local operation with farm markets in Penfield and Greece. The staff is always knowledgeable about their offerings if you have questions.
This is a good choice when you want the farm-market experience without committing an entire day to a large fall festival. Grab a hot chai at Elvio's Coffee beforehand to stay warm while browsing the market!
Grab a pumpkin, find a mum for the front porch and some produce for dinner, and you've got the ingredients for a cozy Rochester fall afternoon.
1416 Creek Street, Penfield, NY
Why visit: Pumpkins, mums, gourds, seasonal produce, and a true local farm-market experience close to home. They offer an updated webpage listing their daily offerings, too. (Plus, if you live on the west side, they have a great second location there that offers pick your own flowers during parts of the year!)
Hoover Farms — Penn Yan
If you're up for a longer but scenic drive, head south toward Penn Yan and the Finger Lakes and make Hoover Farms part of the trip.
Half the fun of heading toward Penn Yan in October is simply getting there. The Finger Lakes countryside is beautiful during fall, making this farm perfect for a day trip.
Take your time exploring the farm and hunting for the perfect pumpkin, and then spend the rest of the day discovering the Penn Yan area before heading back toward Rochester.
Penn Yan, NY
Why visit: This Mennonite family-owned farm is known for great prices, healthy plants - including some lesser-known and exotic options - and yummy baked goods. They offer pumpkins, gourds, mums, unusual types of peppers and other produce, and lots of different plants.
Turn Pumpkin Shopping Into a Fall Day Trip
The best part about these three stops is that each gives you a different excuse to explore our beautiful area!
If you're near Rochester's east side, Blue Barn Acres in Victor makes for an easy local outing.
If you want something close to the Penfield/Webster area with plenty of locally grown fall produce, Sunscape Farms in Penfield is a great option.
And if you're ready for a scenic drive, Hoover Farms in Penn Yan gives you an excuse to head into the Finger Lakes for the day.
Whichever one you choose, take the scenic route. Grab a coffee or cider along the way. Pick out a cool pumpkin for each member of the family. Enjoy the fresh air. And savor October while it's here.
Because around Rochester, pumpkin spice season never seems to last quite long enough!
